On 18 and 19 May, I attended a fantastic symposium at the Historic Hellam Preserve in Hellam, Pennsylvania on “The York County Rifle in its Golden Age, 1780 – 1825”.
Unlike most events I attend, that are annual affairs, this one was a one-time only event, so, if you missed it, you missed it…and it was very good.
The speakers were all top notch. They included Joe Kindig III, Lisa Minardi, Art DeCamp, John Kolar, Pat Hornberger, Dr. Mel Hankla , Frank House and Dr. Barry Kent. In addition to the speakers, the event features an exhibit of York County rifles, which was deemed to be the best exhibit of York county rifles ever assembled. They were spectacular, and we had plenty of time to examine them.
The Historic Preserve was a beautiful location for the event, and very appropriate since it has the oldest log house in York County, dating to the 1740s.
I met old friends there, like Barton Copenheaver, and I made a lot of new friends. We had a LOT of rain, but that couldn’t put a damper on this great event.
